If they weren't, they'd be out of business in such a competitive market. WD are good, but so are all the other major HDD manufacturers. I see an awful lot of people saying that WD is better than everyone else, but I'm not really sure what people actually base that on. The sample size there is way too small and there's bound to be a load of people who have the opposite experience. You'll come across people saying brand X is better than brand Y because I've had loads of drives fail from brand Y, but none from brand X. Store your files on the NAS and watch all your movies and series on your tablet, smartphone, TV, or laptop. In Synologys extensive package Center, youll find free plug-ins to add more functionalities. Normally, if a drive is failing a lot, the issue will be documented somewhere and you'll know to avoid it. Manage, secure, and share all your files with the Synology DS416j NAS, a useful addition to your home or your home office. Do a search on the drive model to see if there's any known issues with it. There's very little usable reliability data on drives out there. I wouldn't suggest buying either of them, as used HDDs are just unreliable in general as you have no idea what they've been through.ĮDIT: As for new reliability, it's actually pretty difficult to get a good idea for which drive would be more reliable. Both are equally as bad as each other IMO.
